It was one of those very pleasant days. It was a a sunny and soft day. It was our morning coffee break in office. Almost everyone had a similar feeling and were trying to make the most of it.
There is a small lawn inside our seven floor office. There were pigeons flying across the small lawn, a few of them had taken their place near the small fountain near the entrance lobby, wetting themselves in the spray. Couple of wagtails were waddling across the grass. A butterfly was fluttering in the middle along with a single bamboo leaf that was on its spiralling descent.
We setttled with a hot cup of coffee in the chairs in one of the corridors overlooking the lawn and were wondering what a small patch of green and a spray of water could do. Just while our thoughts and chatting was wafting around, THUD!!! came a noise from behind us.
We rushed across the corridor to see a pigeon wriggling on the floor. He had crashed against one of the windows in our office, which reflected the sky !!.
Our frantic efforts couldn’t save the poor bird and it passed out right in front of us. We were helpless as well as guilty. It was not the pigeon’s fault. Another bird, another person who has equal rights to enjoy this planet is dead, because of man’s deeds.
We were all fascinated by birds and used to admire them for their color and vigor. But this incident, triggered us to do something for our feathered friends and ensure that they too get
their due in this planet. To help the birds, we should first undertand them better.Their likes and dislikes, their practices and play, their homes and yonder.
birdsark.com is a small effort in this direction to gather as much information as possible about birds and make it a single stop shop for bird enthusiasts.
Dedicated to the little fellow who smashed against the sky in the window.
Thanks!
Best wishes,
Three other birds
